Happy One Year Anniversary, “It’s Okay To Cry”

May 15, 2021. Woo-Hoo Happy One Year Anniversary, “It’s Okay To Cry.” I can’t believe my book has been out for one year! It’s been amazing to see and hear about how the book has been super helpful. I’ve had a friend tell me that one of her mom’s students learned the emotion “anger” through the book. I’ve also had some kiddos at work practice showing us their emotions with each of the tear-drops expressions (SOO CUTE!!!).

It is also Mental Health Awareness Month! So, I decided to publish “It’s Okay To Cry” to spread awareness, validate people’s emotions, and help people cope. When I was younger, I used to be embarrassed about crying in public–I felt “weak” and so small. It’s not a great feeling. 🙁 But throughout the years, I’ve learned to just accept that this is how I sometimes react to certain situations and THAT’S OKAY!

Last year, I applied to a grad program and didn’t get in. There were a lot of things going through my mind and I started to tear up. I tried to fight it, but I told myself that it was okay to just cry. I felt better afterward and then I worked on some other short-term goals (publishing a book, creating a portfolio/blog website, working full-time). *Plot Twist: I got into that same grad program this year LOL. All this to say, I found that it’s important to work through these emotions, cope, and move on.

With this book, I wanted to specifically help children understand that there shouldn’t be any shame or embarrassment with crying; instead, I hope this book allows them to process their feelings and thoughts.
