Behind-the-Scenes: “It’s Okay To Cry” Book Photoshoot

As you may know, I recently self-published a children’s book called, “It’s Okay To Cry.” Here’s the behind-the-scenes look at how I took photos for the book.

Studio Set-Up

Here’s What I Used:

How to Set-up the Studio Photoshoot

1. Make sure you have table space, plenty of light, and a chair to help prop up the poster board.

Once you’ve identified the space with plenty of light, create your studio around it.

2. Figure out how tall you want your studio set-up to be.

I decided I needed a tall background for the hardcover book, so I went with the 22″ height.

3. Create a “cornerstone” with the poster boards and tape.

I used two poster boards to create the back “wall” of the studio. Then I taped one poster to the wall in order to create the corner.

5. Tape down the base of your studio with poster board onto the table space.

This will add a nice, clean base to the studio and make it seem uniform.

6. Prop up the poster board against the chair.

This was kind of tricky. I ended up not using tape to keep the boards up; I just propped it up by the chair and it stayed up.

Photo Time!

Now that we have our light and studio set up, it’s time for photo shooting!

I took some standard product photos to add to my website. I also decided to play around with the photos and try different things. One tricky thing I had to keep in mind was making sure the glare from the cover doesn’t reflect back too much light or else it will distort the colors and lights a little bit.

I hope you enjoyed the behind-the-scenes of the photoshoot. Be sure to get your copy of the book, “It’s Okay To Cry.” Click here for the paperback copy. Click here for the hardcover copy.
