Travel Diary: Weekend New York Spring Trip 2023

New York

Hello, hello 👋We have just concluded our Girls Trip #2: New York City!!! 🗽🍎 You might see some familiar faces. The trip consisted of Amy, Betsy, Reona, Talia, and myself. I haven’t been to New York since 2018 (to see some throwback photoshoots in New York, take a look at the fashion photoshoot here and some fun portraits here). It was a super quick and fun trip and I can’t wait to share it with you!!!

Saturday, May 27, 2023 – Concrete Jungle

To start off our trip in Midtown Manhattan, New York, we got some pizza at 99 Cent Fresh Pizza. They got it to us in less than five minutes of us being inside! You honestly can’t beat the price or the speed! I recommend you check them out!

For dinner, we went to this fancy spot called the Quality Bistro. They had this super cute outdoor seating arrangement LITERALLY on the streets! We did have to be careful about the bicyclists riding between us and the curb of the restaurant. Honest thoughts about the place: the food was good, but very overpriced. Probably wouldn’t go again, but we went for the vibes.

Once we finished dinner, we took some photos next to this fun fountain nearby our hotel. Afterward, we explored Time Square. The number of bicyclists playing “Empire State of Mind” was insane LOL. We also saw some cosplayers/dress-up characters out and about (you know, Spider-Man, Mario, Mickey Mouse, etc.), asking people for money to take pictures with them. You know, just touristy things. 📸

Sunday, May 28, 2023 – Shows, Shows, Shows

Welcome to our first full day in New York. We had a pretty slow morning, but eventually went over to Ellen’s Stardust Diner for brunch… If you love diner food and live performances, you would ABSOLUTELY LOVE this place! I was living my best life here LOL. The waiters/waitresses would serve while also singing and performing. They got it all–from Broadway classics like Rent and Phantom of the Opera, to Disney favorites like The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast.

After this incredible brunch, we hung out in the hotel for a little bit and got ready for the next show. We went over to Broadway to watch Some Like It Hot. I would describe it as White Chicks, but with a twist! There was this amazing choreography sequence toward the end with doors, costumes, and characters running around… I won’t get into the details, but it was just phenomenal and very well put together!

On our way back to the hotel after the show, we walked through some congested streets. I was walking a little further ahead than everybody, so I walked slower and tried to find my friends. As I was looking around, I made quick eye contact with one of the guys (he was dressed as a beloved Disney mouse, but for our purposes, let’s call this particular guy, “Ricky the Rat”). He bee-lined quickly to me, started touching my hair, and tried to put his arm around me… I found one of my friends and she shooed him away! My hero LOL!

To conclude our night, we had a little picnic in Central Park. Beforehand, we stopped by a local market and got some food to go. After we ate our food, we took some photos with a beautiful sunset!

Monday, May 29, 2023 – MoMA, Mia!

Ahh, here we are on our last day. This was such a quick trip! We started our day with a nice little breakfast in the hotel. We also walked over to the Time Square area again and stopped by Angelina’s to get some gelato. I got the Mixed Berry gelato. Deliziosa! 😋 Afterward, we got to explore the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in Midtown Manhattan. We were all pretty tired, so we had the energy to engage in two floors of the building. The exhibit was very interesting! It almost felt like a maze because everywhere I turned, I ended up walking into a new room with new pieces of art to see. So cool! We also saw some “vintage” technology and old computer games as part of the Interactive Design exhibition. How fun! That was the last bit of New York before we traveled back.
