The Hobby That Got Me Inspired in 2020

One hobby I picked up in 2020 that I would like to continue into 2021 is creating illustrations. Now, I am no artist and can’t draw for my life… BUT I wanted to learn a new skill and branch out into something new! PLUS, my Pinterest scroll sessions were flooded with these interesting-looking illustrations. I Googled, “illustrations,” “portrait illustrations,” and even “portrait illustrations with no facial expressions” in order to find this “genre” of art illustrations. I eventually found out that they’re called “vector illustrations.” Anyway, after many hours of being cooped up in my room (was there really anywhere else we could go during quarantine?), I used Adobe Photoshop to create these portraits of myself and even random photos from the past.

Here are some more portraits. Some of the photos were selfies that I took in front of a mirror, which made it easier to focus on the bigger picture. While the detailed illustrations look soo cool, it is definitely time-consuming!

I also did a fun project with photos of random photos that I had. The first illustration, “Flowers,” was a photo I took as a collaboration with Story Media Lab and Worldgate Florist. The next illustration, “Swings,” is a lively photo of two of my friends on the swings at a local park (so fun!!!).

2020 was definitely a time to explore a new hobby. If you want to try it out, the Adobe website can be found here.
