Creative Art and Visual Technology (AVT) Projects To Do

Here’s another lovely throwback blog post of some assignments I did in my Art and Visual Technology (AVT) undergrad class. I had some extra space in my schedule during my last semester of college, so I decided to take a fun art class. Take a look at some of the pieces I’ve made!

Data Collection x Vector Illustrations

Within this project, we had to collect data and create a piece that included the information we gathered. I took photos that I had with my friends and used them as the basis for the vector illustrations. Then, I used a Google Form and asked for the following pieces of information from my friends (at the time of gathering the data, which was in 2020): favorite color, unwinding/stress-relieving/coping methods, and favorite song/artist/TV show/movie:

  • Natalie L
    • Color: Turquoise
    • Unwinding/Stress-Relieving/Coping Methods: making jewelry and painting, drinking hot chocolate and tea, and reading a book
    • Favorite Song/Artist/TV Show/Movie: “Lights On” by Shawn Mendes; Hieu; NCIS; Kubo
  • Reona M
    • Color: Red
    • Unwinding/Stress-Relieving/Coping Methods: praying, reading the Bible, and working out
    • Favorite Song/Artist/TV Show/Movie: Boyz II Men
  • Katelyn P
    • Color: Pink and Blue
    • Unwinding/stress-relieving/coping methods: drawing, exercising, and sleeping
    • Favorite song/artist/TV show/movie: “Stuck With You” by Ariana Grande and Justin Beiber
  • Jane S
    • Color: White, Pink, and Purple
    • Unwinding/stress-relieving/coping methods: drawing, watching Netflix, and baking

    • Favorite Song/Artist/TV Show/Movie: Tyler the Creator

Identity x Overlay & Double Exposure

This project required us to do some inward reflection. I wasn’t really sure which direction I wanted to go… I ended up looking through some of my old photo albums and decided to connect my past to my present. You will see me playing the guitar, being artistic, and being active. Growing up, my dad played the guitar. I “played” the guitar as a little kiddo, but actually learned how to play in high school. My artistic medium also changed throughout the years. In the photo below, I am using chalk; but over the years, I was into drawing, painting, coloring, and of course, photography. Lastly, I found a photo of me riding a little tricycle. During the pandemic, I got back into riding my bike around the neighborhood, so you can see the shadows of the upgraded bicycle.

Simulation x Gifs & Animation

To be completely honest, I don’t really remember much about this assignment. But I’m assuming it had something to do with creating gifs and animations (obvi). I didn’t really have any direction to go, but this was the year of the Olympics, so I wanted to do something related to that. I found some old stuffed animals and created a little “Animal Olympics” series.

  1. […] I also took a couple of photography/art classes while I was in college. The photography class focused on fundamentals, which was a nice review for me. I also took a media class, which was during the whole 2020 school year… craziness! I incorporated some photography into it and the portfolio can be found here. […]
