Come Decorate My New Office as a First Year School Psychologist

I can’t believe we are starting the new school year! Originally, I was going to be at two different elementary schools. However, I am now assigned to a high school. I already had a lot of things for my two elementary schools, so let’s see how I incorporate some of those items in the office at the high school setting.

So like I said earlier, I will be at a high school. I also have my own space this year, so I was thinking of what the office would look like. The room had a corkboard, so I put some of the mental health posters and twinkle lights up. On my bookshelf, I have some rapport building activities (i.e., coloring books, fidget toys, etc.), professional books, and test kits. Of course, I have to add my books, “It’s Okay To Cry” on the shelf. On my desk, I have my office essentials such as pens, tissues, lotion, mirror, etc. Super chill things lol.

I also added an inspirational affirmation mirror. I wanted to be intentional with the language I used with these messages and mixed in “I am” and “You are” statements. We get that positive internal message as well as affirmation/confirmation with the “you are” statements.

My office is still a work in progress, but I hope this helps you figure out how to decorate your school psychology office! This can also be applied to anyone in the mental health field as well.
