Behind the Scenes: Minimalist Fashion Portraits in Natural Light with Talia

Now that Autumn is upon us, here’s a little throwback to Talia’s Minimalist Autumn Fashion Photo Session from November 2020. On this crisp, overcast day, we set out to create a series of minimalist fashion portraits that would blend fashion and nature seamlessly. We went on location to Van Dyck Park in the Northern Virginia area. Throughout the session, there was soft, natural lighting, so we took advantage of it.

Firstly, we started the session by walking onto the big empty field. I really like how it draws attention to Talia and the minimal composition and poses that make the images interesting. The leaves on the ground make it ~very autumn, very cutesy, very demure~ (I had to add that in 😂). But for real, all the autumn/leaves vibes are here😆There is also this sense of spontaneity in the images, as though some moments were captured mid-thought or in between poses, which I really enjoy.

We kept walking around the park and found this cute little bridge and bench area, so we made a little rest stop here. This gives a nice little cozy, fall vibe. Very relaxed! I love that we can incorporate this interaction between the environment and Talia into the images.

Speaking of incorporating the environment, I think the surrounding trees enhanced the session, coupled with Talia’s posing. This interaction adds another layer to the images. It adds a little playful nature to it.
