Happy Asian American, Pacific Islander, and Native Hawaiian (AAPINH) Heritage Month! I was thinking about what I wanted to do for this post. Then I remembered back in kindergarten, every student had a “Star of the Week” poster that they made to share with the class. Basically, one student would put together a poster with photos and captions, which is a cute way to share their “All About Me” presentation. With this in mind, I felt inspired to re-create it specifically with the intention to talk about being Korean American. So, please enjoy my little “Star of the Week” poster about being Asian American.
Korean Food >>>

Okay, I may be biased, but Korean food is literally one of the best LOL. There’s a variety of dishes and flavors that make Korean food so good! 김치 (Kimchi) is such a classic staple side dish that pairs with literally any meal. Homemade kimchi is literally the best (as you can tell by the photo haha). In the theme of AAPINH Heritage Month, I love that Korean food is being more accepted and even enjoyed by others!
Korean Princess

The Korean traditional dress is called 한복 (hanbok). Hanboks are traditionally worn for different events, occasions, and holidays (i.e., weddings, birthdays, and New Year’s). Previously, I’ve typically worn the hanboks on New Year’s as part of the 설날 (Seollal) tradition. The pink color and dressy material make me feel like a Korean princess!
Korean Alphabet

Okay, I don’t know if this is a niche thing or if it’s common amongst the Asian Americans, but growing up, I was exposed to the Korean language… EVERYWHERE! We had different charts with the Korean Alphabet (or 한국어/한글… I don’t know which one is correct, but basically the Korean language and the orthography of Korean). I also remember growing up with simple Korean books and “How To Learn Korean” type of books… We also had those foam and magnet letters to play around with. I will say, I never went to Korean school, but eventually, I learned how to read Korean.
